These flowers are harvested when they are not fully bloomed and then hung upside down to dry. The dried flowers are then used in flower arrangements.
A homemade organic fertilizer is always preferable to commercial ones. Read on for some information about homemade organic fertilizers for roses.
They love slightly acidic soil conditions and require fertilizers to grow. During early spring time, you need to feed a balanced fertilizer to your plants weekly. You should stop feeding your plants about 6 weeks before the first frost. During winter, you need to protect the rose plants from winter damage. This can be done by cutting about 30 to 36 inches of the tall canes and tying the tips together. Clear off any dead leaves, stems, around the plant. You should till about 12 inches of soil around the center of the plant. Then cover the soil mounds with straw, leaves, etc. Mulch about 15 to 18 inches of the soil mound. After winter passes, you can remove the mulch and soil from around the plant base. Leave only about 2 inches of mulch to make sure water is retained around the plant during summer, and prevent weed growth.
