I had a very, very disappointing pay period with Squidoo this month, so I spent some time updating some of my languishing lenses.
As I was reading through them, looking for places to tweak, I noticed that I use a lot of qualifiers. Now, I knew this already, but actually seeing it in writing that wasn’t totally off the cuff surprised me. (Notice that I did not say “I kinda knew this already” and “sort of surprised me”- I stopped myself just in time)
I used “quite” and “in hopes of” multiple times in the same lenses. Ick. I know I do that in my posts, but I don’t edit my posts! These just seem to slip right past my radar since I actually speak this way. I’ve been told often that I “talk just like *I* write”. And I do.
Aside from that, I was thinking about a favorite song of mine. It’s silly. It’s written for SCA and Rennie type audiences- so you may not pick up on all of the jokes. However, I think most writers would appreciate it anyway.
It’s called “Exclaimations”, and repeats the definition in the chorus. For some reason, this cracks me up. I’m posting two videos of this song. The first, because I like it best out of the videos. The second, is because the, er, definition part of the song isn’t so easy to hear in the first video, but the second video sounds almost exactly like cd.
If you actually want to buy this cd, it’s available at CD Baby (don’t worry, not an affiliate link- they don’t have an affiliate program that I can find), or check out the bards’ website for more info and downloads.
Now, lets see if I can spell their name right. Brobdingnagian Bards. Yeesh. Not easy, is it?
Don’t forget, this is the last day to win the publishing package! Contest is over at midnight (Eastern) tonight!
