If you’ve been involved in internet marketing for any length of time, you’re probably familiar with the term proxy servers. Using a proxy server lets you build sites on an IP other than your own, making any links you build seem more diverse than they actually are.

In China, because internet access is so closely restricted, many websites are only accessible by proxy.

And, in the IT world, remote pc access is an absolute must for top notch customer service, or busy IT departments. After all, who wants to go driving from building to building and running from cubicle to cubicle when you can troubleshoot and fix problems from your own desk top? (Bonus if you can do it from home).

Last week, my father in law had a virus on his PC that he couldn’t get rid of himself. He called his anti-virus software company and they used Remote Access to get into his computer and remove the virus for him. No waiting 5 days for some guy to show up at an awkward time and wait while he fiddles around with your machine and milking his hours. Nope, quick, painless, and in the middle of the night with no wait for an available tech to drive out to his house, or having to lug his desktop to a central location.

The tech guy at work uses this sort of program as well. When I have difficulty performing a task, he can, and has, accessed my computer from his desk and “watched” to see what I was doing. And then fixed the bug without ever having to come over and kick me out of my office.
