You know, they send them first so that I'll feel guilty for getting free stuff and send them money. But, there are A LOT of causes that I believe in, and couldn't even afford to donate a dollar to each one. So, I choose carefully who I donate to, though I'm not usually so careful about when. Besides, I'm so anti-conformist, I never like to use anything that everyone else has. I've always got to choose something with personality. :-D I often get them as guilt inducers from charities and causes.
