My church is getting ready to break ground for our new building in April. My new favorite preacher’s church is getting ready to expand their building. And I want to be involved in both, and yet can’t give more of my income since my husband doesn’t support the projects.

But I’ve had an idea. Several jewelry designs have been swimming around in my head and most involve religious symbols (fish, fish hook, cross, etc). What if I picked one of the designs for each of the building funds, and donated the profits of each? It’s true that I haven’t had much luck in selling my jewelry, but at the same time, I haven’t listed much of it either!

What about you? Do you have a favorite charity that you don’t have much money to spare for? March of Dimes, Heiffer International, etc? Is there anything that you could sell? Old clothes on eBay, or maybe your scrapbooking skills? Sometimes giving doesn’t have to hurt, and sometimes it’s a good hurt.

  1. I do. I give to Dress for Success. Unloaded a ton of practically-new business suits, shoes, dress pants, shirts, pantyhose…. It made me feel good to know someone who desperately needed it is now dressed to the nines. :)

Also, I use the GoodSearch search engine. You designate your charity and then just use it like Google or Yahoo! Each search nets cash for your charity.

That’s awesome. Unfortunately, most of my clothes aren’t really worth donating. However, my SIL gave me her whole closet (practically), so I’m donating the clothes that don’t fit or aren’t flattering. Her clothes are nice. :-D

    BTW, love your Gravatar!

  3. Hi, I followed you from a comment on FreddieTaylor.com. That’s a nice idea. Another idea that might be too time consuming would be to setup a blog for the Church if they don’t already have on. Things like pictures, news, Church updates and events. Then you could setup a PayPal donation button to help raise funds. Just an idea. I like your blog and I’m following you on Twitter as ExtremeEzine.

Hi Brian! Freddie’s da man. Glad to see you visiting and getting to know his peeps. :-)

My church actually has a rather impressive website, including a blog (which usually works, but whoever runs the site is a little to happy with flashy technology rather than quality products).

However, that’s exactly what some friends of one of my internet buddies did when his house burned down. They set up a fundraising blog to help him rebuild his home, and it was quite a success! So it’s definitely a great idea for someone looking to spread the word and try to get donations.

Hm… there’s another idea. An internet marketer could set up a niche site and donate the proceeds from that! I like it, I like it….
