Remember back a month or two when everyone was posting their workspace? Well, I took a picture of mine, loaded it up, and when I went to post it, couldn’t find it. I have a lot of pictures, and I’ve never been the best at organizing them.

So, that was my work space. The sheets are very useful for covering the mattress. The pillows are great for sleeping, cuddling while reading, or propping up my back after marathon sessions of playing online or building websites. I hate that comforter, but hubby hates the red sheet, so I figure we’re even as long as the bed isn’t made. And I love, love, love that slanty laptop support thing. If my laptop were just a smidge smaller, I could even slide it inside for safe keeping.

If you look closely, you’ll see Darren Rowse’s face on the screen since I was on his website at the time.

And this is my new work space. It’s tiny, uncomfortable, and almost practical. You see, the chair has to sit sideways since the back tilts just far enough that my knees are shoved tight against that black bar if I have it facing properly. And that’s after hubby moved his huge dresser 2″.

The vanity used to be my sister in law’s, and the mirror is really annoying. I’ve never been overly dis-satisfied with myself since I never look in the mirror enough to be. But with a mirror right behind the monitor? Well… let’s just say that it inspires me to take fewer thoughtful pauses.

The lamp was hubby’s when he was a kid. The red glass bottom lights up as well as the main bulb. It’s kind of ugly, but in a retro, almost cool way.

Franken-Goofy is hubby’s. I bought it for him for halloween. I bought Count Mickey for myself for halloween. The blue bear is hubby’s (I loathe teddy-bears, but there’s no where else to put it), and the lion is one of my favorite gifts from hubby. I have a thing for lions, so he got them for me all the time when we were dating. I only have two on display, this one because it kind of looks like him, and the other because he bought it for me on a bad day and said it was to remind me always that he loved me. Aw. Oooh, I’m getting all teary just typing that.

Just to the left of the laptop is where I put books and movies that I need to review and have already read/watched. It helps to remind me. And I keep my digital camera just behind it. There’s a knob on either side of the mirror, and I have my thumb drives hanging from ribbons off of them.

And you’re all wondering, “If it’s so uncomfortable, why does she sit there?”, I know. Because it keeps me from just screwing around online. I have to get up every half hour or so and walk around or else my back cramps up. It makes me focus on what I’m doing instead of getting distracted.

All in all, I’m quite pleased with myself, and now have a bed to do other things with. Yanno. Like, read.

I don’t like to make the bed. Only when it gets new sheets. There hardly seems to be a point since it’s just going to get unmade!

And someday you can say this is where I wrote The Great American Novel.

Clair- I’m such a hypocrite. I hate making the bed, but when hubby does, I love it!

Travis- *lol* I would love for my chick-lit (‘scuse me. humorous women’s fiction) to be called the Great American Novel. That would just make my year. :) I’m already designing my dream writing room for when I “make it”.

i NEVER make my bed. my son is going to grow up not even knowing what that term actually means. Nice, huh?!

I love writing in the bed, but I do so much better at the desk. I think my brain thinks it’s time to go to sleep when I’m in the bed so it gets confused when I try to make it create things. :)

Sarah- *lol* Lucky kid! My parents’ rarely made me make my bed, but they instilled a sense of guilt in me when I didn’t. Not that that actually got me to make my bed, just feel guilty about it. :) I only make my bed now when the in-laws are coming over and I have time left after trying to clean everything else first.

Jen- I can write in bed just fine if I’m doing longhand, but typing? Uh-uh. I find it very difficult to get into the proper mindset for writing fiction when I’m looking at a screen anyway, but when the distraction of sleep is added to all the other distractions? Just ain’t gonna happen. :)

I really believe that having things around you that you love is important (and inspiring) for any writer. And you are definitely surrounded. ~Karen
