No, that’s not a typo. I’m talking about my towering peaks of books!
Archive for June, 2008No, that’s not a typo. I’m talking about my towering peaks of books! That’s just a start of what I’m planning to give away. The mailing center is acceptable, and so I plan to get started soon. In fact, this weekend, I’m heading out to buy up some shipping supplies. Boxes, envelopes, that sort of thing. I think we still have packing tape, but maybe I’ll pick some more up just to be sure.
Take a good look at those piles, cuz in them are 18 separate give aways. Most are bundled with similar books, a few are singles. And there’ll be another series once I’ve read the third book. And another Nora Roberts once I’ve finished reading that. And…. You get the idea.
I’m planning to do this every other week until they’re all gone, but don’t hold me to that. I’m nothing if not a procrastinator.
Now, I must find out where my friends get those wonderful boxes they ship books to me in. They’re so cool! Like a long piece of cardboard that just wraps around. Amazon uses them sometimes as well.
Yes. I just referred to shipping materials as cool. Perhaps I should ask Travis for a job reference?
What I like best about Cibo’s, is that they make a rockin’ white pizza. They always seem puzzled when I order it, usually asking if I want the garden white pizza which has broccoli and tomato on it, and still sound puzzled when I say that I don’t want the garden white pizza, I want the white pizza. What makes their white pizza better than the competition? Well, instead of big dollops of ricotta, which does not melt and spread out like other cheese, Cibo spreads the ricotta evenly over the crust. Then comes the mozzarella (or blend- I don’t ask, just eat), and then it’s topped with- not garlic and oil like other places- but garlic oil. The result? Full flavor with each bite. White pizza isn’t all they do well here. My husband swears by their calzone’s. In fact, while we have a different favorite pizza place for regular pizza, hubby will often tell me that he’s in the mood for a calzone, and why don’t we go to Cibo’s? I don’t eat calzones, so I can’t say anything about them. However, I have tried their turkey club panini, and it’s lovely. I didn’t order it on this trip, so I can’t show you a picture of it, but it’s quite large and gooey (oh yes, they melt that cheese!). It’s a shame that they don’t offer half sandwiches since they don’t reheat well, and I hate to waste half of a good sandwich. The one thing that I don’t recommend, however, are the subs. It was quite a long time since I ordered a sub at Cibo’s, so I can’t say whether they make them the same way now. But, when I ordered a sub there, it was made with a single, large, chunk of cheese rather than slices. At first, I thought it was brilliant. Unfortunately, the cheese had such a strong flavor that I couldn’t taste anything else in the sub except the vinegar, which I had asked to not be put on. I couldn’t finish it and haven’t ordered them again since.
This picture didn’t turn out as well as I would have liked since I was trying to keep people out of the photo (I don’t like posting people online without their permission), and took the picture too quickly. I really wanted a picture of the floor since it’s just really cool looking, but they thought I was weird enough already, and taking pictures of the floor would surely label me as a nutso. So after walking through the park for an hour or so and working up an appetite, we got home with this. Not a bad end to a Saturday, huh? This post has been brought to you by Travis Erwin’s My Town Monday series. For more of My Town Monday, scroll to the bottom of his post for links to everyone participating, or click my My Town Monday tag for more of my posts on Lancaster Pennsylvania. I’m sure that I’ve posted about being second shift, going to bed at 4am and getting up at noon… So when I say I like to sleep in on the weekends, I mean I like to sleep in on the weekends. All in all, it makes it pretty difficult to do things like, oh, go to the post office. I mean, I can’t even go at lunch like normal people since my lunch is around 7pm. Break is at 4pm, but there are no shipping places close enough to work to be able to make it there and back in twenty minutes let alone 10 or 15 (they’ve never been clear on exactly how long break is, so I just kind of guess). I was trying to think of a post office that would be close enough that I wouldn’t have to get up a full hour earlier just to ship out a package or two. Couldn’t think of one. But then, I turned my mind towards other shipping options. FedEx? Don’t know of any around here. UPS? Ditto. DHL? Close, but the traffic jams in that shopping center are legendary. And then I remembered. There’s this little mailing center in a shopping center just up the street. I’ve never been in because they were always closed by the time I got out to do my errands. And yet, I do my errands around 5 and 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday. So I did a little digging, and lo and behold! I found a mini website for them. And they’re open till 4pm on Saturdays. I’m usually up around 1:30 on Saturday- so if I just dress and do hygiene stuff, wait for food and other things until after I’m back… I could totally make it there before they close! Of course, I still have to see what extra fees they have and how it all works, but… What does this mean for you? Well, awhile ago I mentioned that I’d like to have book contests to get rid of my overflow instead of lugging them out to a used book store for credit. Share the wealth, and that sort of thing. The stipulation being that I’d wait until I knew I could get up early enough to get to the post office. You see where this is going, don’t you? No, I’m not announcing any contests yet. But I think I’ll be checking that place out this weekend, and if it looks as good as I hope, I’ll be announcing the first one soon. And in addition? I made over $700 worth of jewelry that I barely even photographed because it’s such a pain to get up. If I’m making trips to a mailing center anyway, then selling my jewelry and crafts, and who knows what else, won’t be any more trouble than writing out a few extra address labels and tracking sales. Which, I need another hobby. Cross stitch is driving me cross eyed. |
