I finally worked my way down my TBR pile to approximately 9 books left, plus classics.
So what do I do? I hit a used book store, of course!
Picked up Shopaholic Takes Manhattan (hoping her books don’t need to be read in order since I’ve never read any of the other Shopaholic books- but Miss Snark likes them…), Nora Roberts’ Irish Dreams, Piers Anthony’s Firefly- a writer friend says he’s funny in a sarcastic sort of way, 3 of the Wheel of Time series (I always read brother’s copies, and can’t afford to buy the whole series new), A Christmas Carol (only ever read it in school with the school’s copies), Jonathan Wild (looked good), Little Women (would you believe that I’ve never read it before?).
Not too bad for $29. Not great either, though, as I’m used to used books running half this price, but whatever.

Hey Vixen,
Have you thought about bookswapping as well? I like bookmooch.com because it allows me to get rid of the books I’ve already read and get my hands on ones that I want to read. It’s also free (less the postage required to ship to fellow book swappers).
Just an idea that will save you some money, will expanding your library!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend

I’d never heard of bookmooch.com. Sounds like a great site! Kind of like a niche freecycle.
I don’t get up early enough to get to the post office, which is why I haven’t put up my jewelry site, or my crafts. I actually want to give away the books I’m not keeping here on the blog. But, again, I have to actually get up early enough to hit the P.O. before work, and me and “early” just don’t mix.
I’m a library whore. I have a huge TBR pile and it keeps getting bigger and bigger.
You checked out Absolute Write, right? If not–do!!!
Laski- I used to be all about the library until I moved away from my home town. The libraries around here keep post office type hours- and the closest one even shuts down at lunch! Can’t get to it.
At one point, I’d read every article on Absolute Write in the fiction section. I don’t normally hang out in the forums, though. Do they have books for sale there?
I loved ‘Little Woman’ when I was a kid. I haven’t re-read it in ages. I think I’d still adore Jo, think Amy was a twerp, and wish Meg had more scenes in the book!
Don’t forget: anniversary tribute to Miss Snark on Pat Wood’s Blog starting May 20th.
And of course wish every time that I’d read the book wrong and Beth doesn’t die …
I loved the shopaholic books! Though the protagonist was always kind of annoying!!!
Sam- I’ve only ever seen the movie version with Winona Rider (Ryder?) in it, and I’m hoping that I’ll enjoy the book more than the movie!
Stephen- Thanks for the heads up! I’m half way through my complete read of the Snarchives.
CJ- I think that part is some of why I hated the movie. Hopefully the book is good enough that I can deal with it.
Colleen- Funny, that’s what I thought about Devil Wears Prada. I started rooting (routing? Dang, my English has abandoned me today) for the deliciously evil boss. Hated the protag and her best friend both!
Ohhh do I ever hear ya (CJ close your ears). I have a HUGE pile of TBRs, so many I can’t count. Went to the library yesterday and snatched up comparables to read for my proposal’s market analysis.
THEN I acquired some novels while at the Colorado Christian Writers Conference and (CJ, please open your ears now) I so want to read Angela Hunt’s funeral home books and get my hands on Nancy Rue’s Healing Waters. I’m reading Healing Stones. Love them!
Love books! Need therapy!
Is there a support group for book addiction?
btw – I’m gonna be in PA July 2 – 14. You guys hafta come up to the metroplex of Dallas… PA this time. My mom sez we can all crash at her house and eat ourselves nuts – and maybe swim if the pool isn’t green.
Hi Wordvixen,
You will love Little Women, I think I’ve re-read that one like twice since adulthood.
I haven’t read the shopaholic books yet, and I keep meaning to pick them up – but I’m with you on Devil Wears Prada, the writing was fast paced, but I wasn’t so much for the mc – I thought it was just me…
I just read one that I ordered on a lark – the writing was brilliant, but I hated, hated the mc. I just didn’t like her. I spent half the book wanting to crack her – but the writing was so good that I finished it anyway…
Darcie — can’t wait!!
Close my ears, huh? How about my eyes? You didn’t tell me I couldn’t read the post! Ha ha.
I TOTALLY agree with The Devil Wears Prada comment! Actually, I didn’t even really like the book all that much…it was pretty good, but I didn’t think it was as fantastic as everyone made it out to be.
Darcie- *lol* That’s why I’m on hiatus from the reviews. I still have a movie review outstanding, and T & C have a list of authors that I’ll make an exception for. But otherwise? I’m working on my WIP and my TBR pile.
Support group? Why yes, we all support each others’ reading habits.
Merry- I’m hoping that I’ll like Little Women. It seems like one of those books that you can’t justify not liking. I’m not so keep on depressing scenes, but I do handle them better in older books.
Yup. In fact, while I love chick lit, the MCs are the main reason I don’t like best seller chick lit. It’s one of the reasons that I like Christian chick lit- the entire story does not revolve around sex and being a b**ch. There’s just something off putting about an MC that you’d rather see get shot down (take that as you will) than succeed.
Colleen- Yup. I liked the story. I liked the bad guys. But the MC and her bff? Pass!
Everyone Worth Knowing was better. I didn’t hate the MC much- but I felt the story was lacking.
I keep wanting to read her newer books, because I smell the potential there (oops, maybe that was me.), but I’m just afraid of wasting my money and time yet again.
See? This is why so many people stick to their favorite authors instead of exploring the newly published. They’re afraid of wasting their money.
Darcie (again)- July sounds great! By any chance is this near Victory Pig?
