I’ve found a number of products recently that I really like. One is Kashi’s frozen pizza- both the Mediterranean and the garlic chicken, and the other is Smart Ones (by Weight Watchers) Thai chicken and noodles in a peanut sauce tv dinner.
The thing is, a serving of Kashi’s frozen pizza is between 250 and 300 calories (depending on which pizza), and the tv dinner I had was 260 calories. At first I was very excited that something relatively low in calories was so delicious and yet relatively filling.
However, my appetite over all hasn’t been very strong. I found jarred hot Indian curry (I love curry, yet can’t make it to save my life), and have been serving it over approximately 1 cup cooked rice, 1-2 tablespoons peas, and a chicken tender (not breast- just the tender). And I can’t finish it. It could be because, for the first time ever, a store bought product that’s marked hot actually is hot. Seriously, it burns both my mouth and my stomach. And yet, it’s so good.
So I’ve been eating just over half of it, and a serving of Musselman’s Natural Applesauce (just apples, water, and salt) to cool my mouth and stomach down. And by the way? The best thing to drink with something hot is a glass of water with lemon juice in it.
Anyway. I know there can’t be many calories in that. And I’m not even finishing it.
So today, I totalled up all of the calories that I know I eat (I think I estimated 400 for breakfast, just to be safe), and I came up with just over 1100. Then I usually have a bit of a snack after work, so I estimated that I’m coming in around 1500 calories a day.
And then I panicked. I read on a box somewhere that they were recommending 2200 calories for a woman literally 1/2 my weight. I know that cutting calories is good, but I also know that cutting them too much, too fast is bad. Panic attack city!
Luckily, the woman in my office that had the gastro intestinal bypass surgery (and therefore had to have much therapy before and afterwards, as well as has to attend meetings to ensure that she’s eating healthily, and has lists of allowed foods, etc) was in my office at the time. I say luckily, because she laughed at me and told me that they recommend 1600 calories daily. I think she said between 1300 and 1600, but I’m playing with the loose end here. Whew!
On the one hand, I’m relieved that my body won’t suddenly go into starvation mode and stop losing weight. On the other hand, that means no splurges! Durnit.
