We got in about 11:30pm last night (15 hour driving instead of 16 because hubby got a little crazy behind the wheel). I was going to start off with a post about something I saw on the way to Disney, but I can’t find my USB cable to load the picture. I also managed to catch a cold and am completely unable to focus, so I’m posting my trip report from the way down. Enjoy!
I started recording our mileage, the times we crossed state borders, etc. since hubby and I often get into discussions involving these very things. This way we have numbers to back it up. Part of the way down, things started to get interesting, so I thought I’d share it with you.
Start
159,029.4 full tank (1.5mi) 3:38 pm-ish
{This means, our starting mileage, we started with a full tank minus the 1.5 miles we drove from the gas station to home. 3:38 is the last I looked at the clock before leaving. Hubby says 3:45pm}
Enter Maryland @4:27pm
Enter Virginia @ 6:07pm
Richmond in 4 hours!
Enter North Carolina @ 8:53pm
Gas @ 341 miles. 18mpg
Miami 618 miles- Just @ Will Smith’s “Miami” came on
{No kidding. We had “Miami” on a mix cd, and just as it came on, we passed a sign that said “Miami 618 Mi.}
Enter South Carolina about midnight
{Yeah, I forgot to write it down, but we were within a few minutes one way or the other}
2:15am South Carolina- absolutely gorgeous weather!
2:20am Gas @ $2.99 gallon {It’s sad that we’re impressed by this- but it was 89}! 326.8mi 18.155 mpg
Enter Georgia @ 3:02am- husband thinks we’re in FL cuz of palm trees {I’m not kidding}.
Enter Florida (for real!) 5:05am
5:40am Husband develops split personalities with a non-spanish speaking mexican, and a cop. Begins shouting “Gringo!”, and “Press 2!”
6am-ish husband finally stops saying “gringo”.
6:59am I spoke too soon
Gas @ 295.8 mi 16.8 gallons 18.15mpg
8:35am @ the hotel
9:45am in the room #8655
{I have to specify this because while they gave us the correct room keys, they told us the room was 8653- which was occupied}
The sad thing is, it’s now 10:15 pm and my husband is still shouting “gringo” over and over. He is, thankfully, however, not the cop. It was pretty embarrassing though, since half of the people working the desk area when we checked in were hispanic… and my punch drunk husband (he did all the driving- 16 hours straight) was continuing to shout “gringo!” through the whole check in process…. and when I tried to shush him, he just got louder. Of course, once they realized we’d been driving for 16 hours they realized how punch drunk he was and started laughing.
I don’t think that’ll work tomorrow. He’s insisting on making Mexico at Epcot our first stop….

you came back! I was getting worried.
Hope you have a rollicking good time at Disney with your strange husband.
It sounds like you had fun
Welcome back … Gringo!
Grace- Awwww! Well, I considered staying away, but then I thought “gee.. Grace’ll probably sic (sp?) her monkeys on me and I’ll bet they’re not as cute as the ones at Disney.”. If I’d have known they were like that cute baby gibbon you posted, I might have stayed.
And strange doesn’t even begin to cover it. If only you could see the footage I took of him down there…
Tracy- absolutely! I’m telling you, you guys need to go. But not in the summer. It’s too hot in the summer.
Travis- Thank you very much! Although, I didn’t know that “Gringo” was contagious.
ZOMG SIS *Glomps* Bout time you guys got back missed you guys so much… not many normal people like us around here *wink wink* Anyways hope you guys have fun talk to you soon!
Welcome back! Glad you enjoyed the weather. Oh, and Disney, too.
Welcome back! I can’t believe you guys made that drive in one night.
Gringo! (hehe.)
Rafy- Awww! We missed you too! And all the mommy chulas (spelling?) did too.
Wolf- hehe. Believe it or not, we don’t go down for the weather. But it is a nice side benefit.
Jersey- Yup, Hubby did it. All… I have a fear of driving in places I’m not familiar with. Press 2!
