Last night as I was reading in bed I was overcome with a sudden urge to put pen to paper. It’s not that any one thing was demanding my attention- no particular scene, character, or even one of my books. It’s just that I’ve been dwelling so much on my blogging, lenses, and paid posts/articles that I’d completely neglected my fiction. And my first love is fiction.
Since hubby was asleep I couldn’t turn on my laptop to work on my fantasy novel, so I pulled out my notebook, post its, and pen. I only filled up two post its, but at my size of handwriting that’s like a normal person’s notebook page. But man did it feel good. Much like when you’re very dehydrated and you run your hands under cool tap water. It won’t go far to sustain you, but it’s heavenly while you’re in the moment.
There were a few other things that I wanted to post about, but since we spent the weekend together, hubby remembered that he has a wife and is not allowing my attention to stray for long periods of time. Oh well, I do rather like him.

I hate writing longhand. Hate it hate it hate it. My hand starts to cramp up and I can’t read my own (admittedly crappy) handwriting, and it’s just bad news. I applaud you for being able to do it.
My wife and I occasionally get to spend more than a few hours together, and although she has learned to accept my running to the computer when some gem of wisdom strikes me, I think that if I were to abandon her in order to blog I would be setting up shop on the couch for a while. What was that you said about spouses getting in the way? I jest, of course.
I like to write longhand to work out a plot problem. I’ll sit in front of a pad of paper and basically just talk to myself with my pen. Since my brain goes faster than my pen too it helps to slow me down and really think.
I also write down my story ideas in long hand.
Yup, for some reason I can’t type out my ideas unless I’m transcribing them from notes that I wrote out.
